Celebrating sustainability in sports at Norwich City FC vs. Leeds United match

Since 2020, MM Kotkamills has been Norwich City FC’s first-ever Sustainability Partner to work with the club to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is disposed of as a by-product of food and drinks served and consumed at Carrow Road football stadium and the Lotus Training Centre. The club has been working hard to become a more sustainable organisation on and off the pitch and is looking forward to showcasing the good work at the match against Leeds United, as well as exploring room for improvement.

The club is also encouraging supporters to make small changes to their matchday ritual for the game, in a bid to become more sustainable. To find out about the changes the club has undergone, see Canaries’ site.

“Responsibility is one of MM Group’s and its Finnish subsidiary MM Kotkamills’ core values and we also expect it from our partners who are chosen for our responsible partnership program. Sporting events are a good example of how several partners can work together to significantly decrease the event’s ecological footprint footprint, for instance. It’s wonderful that Norwich City FC has already taken so many sustainability actions and has chosen responsible partners who share environmental concerns,” praises Saila Kettunen, Vice President, Sustainability & Communications from MM Kotkamills.

MM Kotkamills has previously signed sporting-world-related collaboration agreements emphasising environmental and social responsibility with several sports clubs and sports events. In 2022, MM Kotkamills will celebrate the 150-year anniversary of its sawmill and will launch its 150 sustainable actions challenge to its partners and their supporters.

The work of Norwich City FC’s and MM Kotkamills’ Greener Together partnership has been recognised across the football, sponsorship and sustainability industries:

  • Norwich City’s ‘Greener Together’ sustainability efforts were recently recognised at the British Association for Sustainable Sport (BASIS) Sustainable Sport Awards 2021.
  • The sustainable food service packaging designed for Norwich City FC by Pyroll and Kotkamills received the ‘Everyday Heroes’ Special Recognition Award in the New Wood 2021 Competition in Finland.
  • The sustainability partnership of Norwich City FC and Kotkamills was honoured with a nomination for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme in Football Business Awards 2021.

Furthermore, the club was also invited by the British Embassy in Finland to produce a video in the build-up to the COP26 summit on climate change. View the video.
